Day 143 – Tulip festival

Today I noticed the tulips have popped in the park.  The Charlottetown Tulip Festival is a commemorative event held as part of the celebrations around the 150th sesquicentennial of the Charlottetown Conference in 1864.  The city looks fabulous with tulips on every corner and in various other spots.

The trees are coming alive in the park, too.

DSCN8590

This is in front of the fire station.

DSCN8598

And this beside city hall.  I think I will get some bulbs from Vesseys and cover my southeast facing bed on the side of the house.  It will make a lovely display next spring.

DSCN8600

I noticed the city put these little rock pads in various spots and spread fresh mulch last week for the royal visit.  Charlottetown looks fantastic this spring!

DSCN8597

A crew was fixing this sidewalk up town – how much do you think I wanted to come back and put a handprint into the fresh concrete?

DSCN8601

I saw this in front of the Queen St. Starbucks and thought it was cute.

DSCN8603

You’ll note my pictures are much more interesting when I get out and about – otherwise they are the same old pics from the office or of my front or back yard.  Today it was so cold I thought I might even catch a picture of snow flakes falling!

Happy Friday!

Day 86 – also known as storm day 2

Well, we survived the windy night.  Note to builders, if possible – don’t connect the outdoor wires to the outdoor walls of a bedroom….do you have any idea how loud those are in a storm?  Oh well, at least our power only went off for 10 minutes sometime during the night.

We woke up to a blustery day but eventually the sun came out.  It was one of those storms which left snow at every door and window.

But somehow (fortunately) left the driveway near bare.

DSCN8104

This guy just had to get somewhere this morning before the plows even came out to play.

DSCN8085

Comparison shot to yesterday’s storm one. No bare road there!

DSCN8098

In fact…..totally filled in beside us.  I hope our neighbor did not need to be anywhere today.  It was 3ish when they plowed the road but after 5 when her snow blowing tractor showed up.  What had been bare widened street was completely filled in last night – at least 2 feet high.

DSCN8094

This was the plow’s first pass through the neighborhood.  You know it is bad when he has to come at it sideways just to get it out of the way.

DSCN8103

Hubby was a bit worried about all that snow ending up in our driveway but the guy just pushed it into the street corner. Hopefully he does not come back to clean it up….there is a LOT of snow on the corner now.

If mother nature would give us a heads up, I’d invest in this service for hubby.

DSCN8114

Well, those are the after-pics from snowicane/snowpocalypse/snowmagedon/bombogenisis 2014.

Day 77 – snow clearing

Looks like the streets were widened in our neighborhood.

DSCN7898

After the streets were cleaned up, they came back with a backhoe and pushed back some of the driveway corners.  I should have flagged him down to see if he would finish the poor job I did of our driveway.

DSCN7903

DSCN7908

Oh well, at least he cleaned up our corners, too.

I have never seen them do this in the 5 years we have been here….hopefully it is not on anticipation of more snow!

Day 75 – a birthday

Today is hubby’s birthday. This is the 29th I have celebrated with him.  I still see that 17 year old when I look at him.

Happy Birthday, Hubbs!

DSCN7874

Anyone see the moon as it came up tonight?  Amazing.  We think the cool outdoor air fogged the lens with this picture which made it even more awesome.

DSC_4039

Spoiler alert – heading off-island for my first ski trip tomorrow….expect a lot of pics!

Day 74 – Shovelling

Hubby’s birthday is tomorrow, so the kid and I shovelled the driveway for him. I thought the snow would be light and easy to shovel – boy was I wrong.  It was raining, so the snow was heavy, but ice underneath. We had good intentions but certainly did not live up to the job he does. Hubby had a great laugh at me using a shovel taller than I am.

DSCN7858

Note our good intentions at the top of the driveway…..by the time we got to the end we were exhausted and only managed to make it wide enough for the car to get through.

DSCN7864

It is the thought that counts, right?  Besides, surely this will all soon melt, RIGHT!

Day 73 – After-effects

I got out for a walk today – and yes, that means you have to look at more snow pictures.

This was the view from my office window this morning.

DSCN7827

And this is how it looked this afternoon.

DSCN7853

Although it “felt like” -21 today, the near spring sun obviously was working her magic.

Glad to see the birds are being taken care of, too.  Although this is a parking spot on the street so they may want to move onto the sidewalk.

DSCN7842

It does not look like anyone sat with John A. MacDonald today (no butt prints on the bench).

DSCN7843

I was fascinated by this hedge…..it looked like it was made of glass.

DSCN7852

It is supposed to be plus 6 and rainy tomorrow.  Snow pictures will soon be a thing of the past.

Day 72 – More snow

Yep, another snow day for the school kids.  Snow fell, and then freezing rain on top of that….lots of interesting pics though.

This was the view out our window this morning, before the plow went by.

DSCN7796

There was ice on the back windows and door.

DSCN7797

And the trees were beautiful.

DSCN7802

Although it was probably ice on lines which caused the power outage a block up from our office this afternoon.DSCN7806

Saw so many cars with their wipers out like this….will it really freeze so bad that they won’t move if you scrape and then warm your car?

DSCN7807

Not a big snowfall if compared to last night’s cow pic. A much drearier day though.

DSCN7808

There was no time to shovel this morning when it was plus 2 and then the plow came by after we left.  The boulders are frozen solid as it had dropped to -9 by the time we got home.  I walked up the middle of the driveway and did not make a dent in the frozen snow.

DSCN7810

I thought these teeny tiny icicles were cute.

DSCN7814

I know, we will see how cute all this snow is in April!

And I won’t get to test my new boots tonight as the hill is closed due to all the ice and windy conditions.  Bummer.

J

Day 71 – Cows

The weather forecast for tonight is 15-25 cm of snow in some parts of the island, freezing rain and/or rain in others, and a flash freeze from +6 to -6 within a half hour at some point tomorrow.

DSCN7790

So this could be really really good for the old cow…..or she could be stuck in even more snow.

Despite the warming sun we have enjoyed over the past few weeks, it has been very cold so the snow has barely even gone down since the last dump we received. Tomorrow night I test my new boots so I am hoping for some fresh snow to play in!
